Splot Pullover

Class Time: 6:00 – 8:00 PM

Pre-requisites: 

·       Knitting

·       Purling

·       some exposure to Continental knitting, increasing, decreasing. 

·       This is not a beginning continental colorwork class.

 Preview Class (2 hour Class 2 weeks prior to full class):

·       For Splot Students Only ( make swatch and try continental knitting at same time for registered attendees only – eliminates need for another project prior to Splot)

o   Continental knitting for those who are new to this technique and priority given to those attending this class.

o   Gauge swatching with and without colorwork and swatching flat and in the round

 Skills and techniques learned: 

·       reinforcing continental knitting with two colors

·       floats in continental knitting

·       preventing jogs in colorwork patterns at the beginning of round

·       drop shoulder sweater construction

·       Weaving in ends while knitting to reduce weave ins at end of project.

·       Seamless or invisible bind off in the round

Supplies Needed:

·       US 10 and US 8 32” circular needle

·       US 8 16” Circular Needle - Optional

·       Stitch markers

·       Dropped Stitch fix-it tool - recommended

 

Materials:

Recommended Yarn – Malabrigo Mecha

·       MC – 500 to 800 yards size dependent

·       CC – 200 to 400 yards – size dependent

Homework:

·       Prior to class, please complete a swatch with and without colorwork in the round with measurements both blocked and unblocked (to determine how blocking impacts size).  For more experienced knitters.

·       For less experienced knitters – take preview class with project being a successful swatch and intro to colorwork.

 Class Schedule

Day 1:

·       Introduction and Goals – All

·       Pattern Overview and Class Discussion

·       How to read charts

·       Demos for Continental Knitting and Group Practice if needed

·       Begin Cast On for Size with Main Color

·       Complete Yoke to Colorwork – Includes Yoke Chart first 10 – 11 Rows

·       Break at 7:45 – discussion on pace of class, help with demos, class schedule, etc and preview Day 2.

Day 2:

·       Demo on preventing pattern colorwork jogs at beginning of round and carrying floats in continental knitting (refresh)

·       Begin Yoke Pattern Colorwork from rows 11 – 12 through rows 38 to 49 depending on size desired.

·       Complete as homework until you reach sleeve split.  First colorwork section completed.

·       Break at 7:45 – review progress so far and preview Day 3

Day 3:

·       Continue Body knitting and second colorwork pattern with charts.

·       Pick up for sleeves demo

·       Pick up sleeves (in class so this is done and sleeves can be continued when desired.

·       Seamless bind-off (without bump) demo.

·       Review and Preview Day 4

Day 4:

·       Finish body and bind off if needed

·       Finish sleeves and bind off –

·       Celebrate and Class Photo if desired!!!
