This cowl is an infinity cowl and design was inspired by “Mud Cloth”, a unique textile in Africa. The symbols used in the cloth represent good fortune, bravery, and community
This class is for intermediate to advanced knitters familiar with colorwork knitting.
Prerequisites Include:
· Prior colorwork experience
· Knitting in the round
· Experienced reading charts
Materials Needed:
· 2 skeins Arroyo or other sport weight yarn (251 Yards of each), preferably one solid and one colorshifting
· US size 5 24” circular needle – or needle size required to obtain Gauge
· If yarn contains silk or alpaca fiber strongly consider using wood or bamboo needles Stitch markers
· Row counters – 2 suggested
· Mali Cowl Pattern
· Tapestry Needle
Skills Learned:
· Provisional Knitted Cast On (Pattern uses crochet cast on but this is quicker)
· Reinforce continental; knitting
· Kitchener Stitch in the round
Pre-work Requested Before First Class:
· Please study the charts carefully and think through stitch marker placement.
o The charts are all the same, but the colors are reversed.
· The charts are 51 stitches in a row, somewhat non-repeating so stitch markers are essential.
· Also select 2 stitch markers that are significant to you to show that you’ve reached the end on the first chart and are moving to the second repeat of that chart.
